It's kind of a nonstandard standard, in that support for it isn't anywhere close to mandatory, but is common. If that doesn't work, go to monoprice or something like that and get the cheap VGA cable instead of the $40 one.The only confusion here is that "1080p" is not an official spec. (There are 720p modes that refresh less often than that, but the system doesn't use them.)First step, try 1080p as you have it. You'll actually have more vertical resolution with 720p than 1080i, as 1080i is the equivalent of 1920x540 at 60hz, whereas 720p is 1280x720 at 60hz. That way you get 60 full frames per second instead of 60 deinterlaced frames per second. Also, if you're running 1080i it has to deinterlace the signal in order for it to be a smooth image, so if you can't run at 1080p for some reason, run at 720p. I don't know if the Dell adds overscan to component signals or not, but if it does, then VGA would be better because then you wouldn't be losing any of the image. Any 1080p games just run at 1080p instead. The worst that happens is the screen goes blank for a few seconds and then it reverts back to whatever you're currently using.quote:Will games even fully utilize this resolution? There are a handful of 1080p games, yes.1080p would be better anyway, because then the console upscales the 720p games to 1080p instead of your monitor. quote:And how can I get my 360 setup so that I can choose 1080p as a resolution? If 1080p is an option, just try it with your component cables. There was a system update to support 1920x1080 just fine.quote:I mean, 1080i should be 1920x1200 pixels (interlaced). Why does the 360 show 1080p as an available resolution when the console can't even output at that resolution with a VGA cable? Because that info is old, and wrong. "Component" certainly does, whether or not the 2405 does is another matter.quote:I looked online and found a chart that shows the available resolutions when using the VGA cable and the highest resolution is 1280x1024. I am forced to use 1080i or 720p, since as far as I know, component doesn't support 1080p. I've noticed in the 360 video setup, I can choose from 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p. Quote:Since the 2405FPW has component inputs, that is what I have been using. man this stuff has sure gotten complicated in recent years. does this mean I'm actually losing resolution if I get the VGA cable? And how can I get my 360 setup so that I can choose 1080p as a resolution? Will games even fully utilize this resolution?Sorry about all the questions. Why does the 360 show 1080p as an available resolution when the console can't even output at that resolution with a VGA cable?I know this can't be right, but am I losing resolution when going from 1080i to 1280x1024? I mean, 1080i should be 1920x1200 pixels (interlaced). I am forced to use 1080i or 720p, since as far as I know, component doesn't support 1080p.My question is will I see a noticeable improvement in clarity if I get the VGA cable? I'm also a bit confused over the resolution options available.I looked online and found a chart that shows the available resolutions when using the VGA cable and the highest resolution is 1280x1024. Since the 2405FPW has component inputs, that is what I have been using. Hi guys,I have an XBox 360 that I play on my Dell 2405FPW LCD display.
